I have already read the whole tuning guide and studied hard in my service manual but I keep running into kinks, I shimmed my needle on my VT600 single carb and now fuel slowly spurts out of the needle jet at idle, normally that’s bad but is that normal with a performance kit?
I also have an odd response from my carb, if I roll on the throttle slowly it responds throughout the whole range but if i I twist the throttle quickly it wants to bog out and die,
2001 vlx, AFP deleted and bypassed currently at 48 pilot, 142 main, 1 washer/shim on my needle, AF screw at 3.5 turns out from seated, carb has been throuroughly deep cleaned and rebuilt, only went up in jet size because of rhe straight piped exhaust and modified Airbox from jerkwad previous owner and I suspect the jerkwad also put a crappy chineseum carb in it
@Ryan Alverman ok so you have a bunk carb? no fuel sputing out of the needle jet is not normal! LOl id get a stock carb on ebay. also. was the bike runnign fine before you modified it?
@TJ I had a feeling that'd be the culprit, before the bike only ran with choke because of the cut air box and straight pipe, but later found the jets kept clogging from a rusty choke spring, that's how I bought it. I've gotten it running and throttling good now but just not perfect, been debating just getting and rebuilding an OEM carb, otherwise i may try to revert to stock jetting and Airbox and see what happens, gonna check my float needle and jets again today and see if I can work with it, I also sprayed carb cleaner around the boot and intake and found no vacuum leaks, previous owner tuned it weird too, leaned out the main smaller than OEM and raised pilot above OEM
@Ryan Alverman get an oem carb from ebay and go from there.
@TJ fair enough, to my surprise I got it running pretty damn perfect, throttle response is snappy and consistent so it's ridable atleast, still gonna get an OEM carb though already got Chemdip to clean it out and I got all the new parts just gotta transfer em over.
@Ryan Alverman be careful, dont lose the needle jet thats sticking into the venturi!
@TJ oh I won't! I can get everything for this carb but Those things are impossible to find.
