With Allen heads, if I can get a hack saw onto the Allen head, without damaging anything else, I just saw a slit into it and use a flat head screwdriver. Using a larger Allen wrench has also worked...

I ride both to see which one you like the best and go from there. I have a 99 Shadow 750 ace and enjoy how much power it has as well as the sound/feel of the single pin crank engine.  

My vote, ask to test ride both, see how they feel stock. Pick the one you like more, then mod that. I wouldn't stress the hp unless it's what matters to you, which singles out your decision either ...
