I want to take the baffles out!!!

  • I own a 2003 VT750DC (shadow spirit) and I have a set of cobra drag pipes with the removable baffles. I took theme out just to hear the sound and it was super loud and super cool, and think the bike was running just fine. I rode for an hour, went top speed which is about 160kmh ish on mine, stayed on the highway for a couple of miles and even hit the limiter. The bike took the abuse and didn't buck, chocked or popped. You see I didn't even tune the carb in accordance with the new exhaust restriction, and the bike was running just fine. Now I'm woundering if I really have to do a carb rejetting or similar mod.

Anyways, what would you guys recommend I do to the carb to be able to run open drag cobra pipes?

And will this mod reduce performance (horsepower and torque)?

Is this dangerous for the motor or can lead to damage?

  • Remove and read the spark plugs is the best way to tell. Most likely removing the baffels would cause a lean condition. If too lean, it will run hot and could cause engine damage. My guess is it will be okay. You might notice less touque. I have never rejetted a carb just for removing the baffels. Just check the plugs to see where you're at.

  • @Larry Halle cobras baffles arent substantial enough to cause an imbalance. they will rmeove a little restriction, but not much, theyll sound better. but the engin eis just able to get rid of exhaust a little faster. chekc your plugs and make sur eyoure not too rich or lean and youll be fine. on honda shadows baffle removal should not result in any kind of tuning issues.
