94 Honda Shadow 600 - Engine Issue

  Hello all, I got a question that I hope I can articulate well enough for yall to understand. I own a 94 Honda Shadow 600 for the past 2-3 months now. I've been noticing whenever I apply full throttle the engines Rpm tends to spike up and the bike hardly picks up any speed so I quickly let off the gas to not cause any damages.. i.e yesterday I was riding on the highway traveling around 75-80mph and I gradually was opening the throttle, as I got closer to full open throttle it spiked up. Any idea on what can cause this?

  @TJ hey, I haven't replaced them yet. I purchased the bike from a buddy 2-3 months ago, and I doubt he has ever replaced them if I am honest.
