I love the look of the raw steel tank and apes, but I don't want them to rust. I also bought the exhaust pipes from TJBC, but they are stainless so they should be good as is, I believe.
Aside from painting them, is there another way to keep the raw steel look while also protecting them?
I had an idea. I’m in the gun world and have Lee’s cold blue. I could blue them lightly so they keep their steel look, but will resist rust. Had anyone tried that?
@Bry Guy 007 you can run car wax on gas tanks and parts that dont get hot, and reapply as needed. do not put anything on the exhaust though.
the exhaust are stainles dont take anything like bluing, it looks awful due to the chrominun content in stainless, it will come out patchy and terrible. Stuff like perma blue is only made for carbon steels like those found on firearms components, frames and slides.
There are chemical blackeners for stainless but the finish is very delicate ancd strictly decorative and does NOT hold up to heat.
For the stainless Exhaust , they are very easy to freshen up with a moroon 3m abrasive handpad, make sure you do it cold, they look brand new with about 10 minutes of effort.
Ok that's great information. Thanks! I'll do the turtle wax on the bars and tank. 👍🏼
