I ride a 2005 Honda Shadow Aero vt750c. I took off down the hiway got up to about 75 to 80 mph and it just lost power suddenly. Now I can't get it over 40 mph but if I pull the choke just a little bit it has power again. Anyone have any idea. I'm thinking maybe a jet could be clogged and I need to clean it idk. Thanks Lee.
@Lee Wheeler if pulling the choke ( which iis actually an enriching circuit on your carb, then the bike is too lean, my first thought would be a vacuum leak, at the intake boot or the diaphragm. 20 year old rubber isnt gonna work real good LOL!.
The diagnostic tree is fuel, spark, and compression, so check your fuel system first, ventilation, is the petcock working, clogged, leaking? are the intake boots fully seated and is there any vacuum leaks? really just need to start checking each system for issues. if youve never rebuilt the carb, well, now might be a good time, youll open the carb up and see whats goign on in there. we offer botha stock and performance carb rebuild kit for the aero - https://shoptjbc.com/search?type=product&q=aero
Next after all that id suggest replacing spark plugs, wires and caps. we have a complete ignition tune up kit for that here - https://shoptjbc.com/products/ignition-wire-and-resistor-cap-set
make sure you properly gap the plugs too! dont just pull em out of the box and stick em in there =)
hope this helps!
