Hard Tail Question

  • Anyone hardtail their Shadow 600 at stock height using the shock instead of a strut?  I like the stance but all of the videos I have watched add a strut to lower it.  Any downsides to doing this?

  • @Justin Rhodes You probably havent pulled the bike apart to do some measuring but if you do you'll see that the unloaded position of the swingarm to the forward frame loop doesnt quite line up. A very slight drop in the swingarm will allow our 50% hardtail kit to line up with the swingarm to create a nicely flowing hardtail. You dont have to move the swingarm all the way up, in fact that's ill advised, as it causes the kickstand to be the lowest point on the frame, thus making the kickstand scrape in a left-hand turn, which can cause a lowside crash. the strut we offer puts the swingarm at avery favorable position for a hardtail and barely lowers the rear at all. you can use whatever you like as the strut if you plan to hardtail it. the length is up to you.
If you use the shock to create your hardtail, you arent creating a solid connection. a shock moves. and you want to make the swingarm rigid, fixed in place as you weld the 50% hardtail kit in.

  • @TJ  What is the advantage of the hard tail?..  It seems like it would pound the crap out of you. Does it?
