Hey yall i have a 2007 VLX600. just installed the e-tank and getting ready to button everything up... where the f am i putting my starter solenoid? Am i cutting wires and moving it inside the etank?? making a bracket? would love to see some pictures! TIA
I cut new, longer wires and moved the solenoid into my e-tank.
You can get 4-6 guage wire anywhere, but I got cool-looking wire from Ton's (https://tonsperformance.com/). And of course you need ring terminals and then shrink wrap the ends.
Take a photo of your solenoid so you remember which is red and black, but it's also marked "B" and "M" for "Battery" or RED / and "Motor" for BLACK wire to the Starter.
@Bry Guy 007 You on instagram? Got more questions!
I grew up on motorcycles, but this is my first chopper. I'm building it out and am learning as I go using TJBC parts, videos, and digital shop manuals, etc.
If you've got more motorcycle questions, post them below. I may not be the best one to ask, but I'm sure they'll help everyone searching the forum for an answer.
where did you end up mounting your rectifier? im a visual learner lolol
@Anthony Barr the e-tank has two holes on the bottom that accomodate part #50336-MR1-000 - Regulator Rectifier Plate. if you have a mono strut e-tank you will want to get some longer bolts and nuts to mount he reg/rec. that is where its intended to go.
for the starter relay, do not extend the wires. please. LOL i dont want to see your bike on fire LOL!
you want to make a new length of wire with the correct o-ring non-insulated terminals with heat shrink to locate the starter relay INSIDE the e-tank.
i use mcmaster part # 92805K46 to go over the starter relay, the wires comeoff the relay and go downward out the bottom of the cap, then i zip tie the bottom, this puts the relay in a nice insulated capsule, prevents any wiring from grounding, and its easy to clip a zip tie to get at the relay if needed. hope this helps dude!!
