Fuel leak after first carb rebuild: can floats be installed upside down?

  I just completed my first carb rebuild.  Started up and promptly found one carb leaking fuel.  It appears to be coming from the gasket and/or overflow.  I paid close attention to proper gasket installation.  I'm trying to think what else I could have done wrong and realized I did not pay close attention to the floats.  And I think I may have installed the float upside down.  Is this a common beginner mistake and would you agree this would lead to overflow?

  Tried tapping on it some, and now the leak is gone.  Ran it for ~12 minutes and I think I tuned it.  Maybe it was just stuck....?

  @Klaas being meticulous is crucial for a carb rebuild. the floats  are directional so they only work one way. i would be more concerned with the fuel flow though. if you dont have an inline fuel filter, you need to get one. debris can get stuck under your float needle and cause the carb to overflow, or even worse, get in your crankcase and cause real problems by washing your cylinders.
