Exhaust Gaskets Baked In / Exhaust Support Doesn't Fit

  • I got a used 2007 VT600CD, and I just bought the TJB MAX Fuel Kit and the MAX Performance Kit (Backdraft Straight Cut Stainless Steel).

    Two questions:

    (1) These exhaust gaskets are baked in it seems. I can't pick at them or get anything to budge. I've tried squirting carb and brake cleaners on them too, in hopes of losening them. Any tricks or ideas on how to get them out?

    (2) The support for the new exhaust kit doesn't fit over the old stud in the bike's frame. (The frame needs some touch up paint before install for sure too.)

Am I missing something? I can drill it out, but wanted to make sure I'm looking at the right parts in the right places.

    Thanks!Exhaust gaskets baked in

  • @Bry Guy 007 the gaskets arent baked in. you just need to spend more time and get them out. you may want to take a standard screwdriver and tap in into the gasket to deform it so you can get in there. you can do the same with the screwdriver using it as a lever and the outer edge of the exhaust port as a fulcrum. i typically use a small piece of wood to prevent any damage to the outer edge of the port, be patient, it can be done. I have done this hundreds of times probably close to a thousand and theres no gasket that cant be removed. You can do it!!!!😎

The part you are trying to attach to the exhaust mount is not meant for that, its meant to hold the two pipes together using the included hardware. The backdrafts actually do not mount to the frame.

  • Thanks, man. That's really helpful. I didn't want to damage the connection, but I'll keep at it with those tips.
