86 shadow VT 1100c velocity stack

  • So, my daily is my vstar 1100 and with a Baron big air kit I kinda panic about rain soaking the exposed filter.

just bought an 86 Shadow VT1100c and want to get the max performance kit in it right away. My brain is telling me the velocity stack will be worse than the Baron kit on my Vstar and my wife will be riding the shadow as well so I just wanna know exactly what to expect.

I saw in the velocity stack video with the shadow 600(?) that you’re only real issues were heavy rain going sideways into the bike. Not much of a problem in cali as TJ put it, but It rains a lot where I'm at. Do you think the carbs being more hidden under the tank for the shadow 1100 will protect them from rain more than the 600 or will the forward face make more water come in?

Also, I live in Buffalo NY. It gets pretty balls cold here. Will the stack cause start/run issues when the air thins out in the cold?

    Thanks

  • @Jordan Powell what i referred ot in hat video was literally a situation where i was riding in a downpour on the freeway and  cars were passing me and just causing a contstant sideways spray of water on the right side of my bike. . the bike stumbled a moment then was fine. it was a non-issue in fact. I've never had an issue with dual or single carbed bikes in rain with a stack. BUffalo does get cold! in the winter it might be helpful to keep a tender on the battery so that bike has good starting power, making sure to always use your choke for startups, you should be ok!

  • Congrats on picking up the ’86 Shadow VT1100c — those bikes have a really solid character and sound amazing with the right setup. Your concern about rain with a velocity stack is understandable, especially coming from experience with the exposed Baron intake on the Vstar. In normal riding and light rain, most riders don’t run into major issues, but heavy rain or direct water exposure can definitely affect performance temporarily. Since your wife will be riding it too, reliability and ease of use matter even more. A lot of performance-focused brands today even work with a custom ai development company to analyze rider feedback and product performance trends from communities like this to improve future kits and recommendations. Hope the build turns out great!

  • I rode my 600 with dual stacks in a down pour here in Oregon. I never meant to ride in the rain but, it's Oregon and it happens. I have a narrow sportster style tank. not once did it cut out or stumble. However, with no front fender, I faired far worse. lol

  • @DaLong tie a handkerchief between the forks. helps a lot!
