Cold front cylinder

  • Hoping to get some help, I have a 2001 Honda Shadow 750 Spirit. This spring, I took the modifications a step further and picked up the max performance kit. I have it all installed fine and dandy, but after going on the first ride, I fouled a plug in the front cylinder, and after some googling and troubleshooting, I found my front cylinder wasn't firing.

(I checked compression and both front and back cylinders are 165PSI, I swapped plugs and wires and ignition coils, and they all checked out good. The front plugs were always wet, so I know I was getting at least some fuel, and when I sprayed starter fluid in the front velocity stack, she would start to fire and cut out again)

I did all I could and brought it to a shop, and they re-synced my carbs, and repaired the synchronization bracket. I rode it home, and she wanted to stall on takeoff. I had to give her a lot of throttle, so I turned the fuel up a bit and now right back to the cold front cylinder.

Any help would be great, Im assuming it's a tuning issue. I dont know if one of the cylinders mixture screw should way differently from the other one or not. Also im running the 42 jets

    thanks in advance !

  • @Parker Anstey you havent made any mention of actually tuning. the kit is not just a drop in kit, you need to correctly tune the bike or yes, you will have probnlems like youre mentioning. I would start here - https://shoptjbc.com/community/brutalforums/topic/176621/tuning-your-carbureted-honda-shadow-everything-you-need-to-know

go through all that and you will begin to understand how to tune the bike and what the bike is telling you with its symptoms, its not rockety science and many folks have done it successfully, i have no doubt you can too!

Also, you didnt mention if the bike was runnign and in good condition when you made the change to a performance kit. if it wasnt, then you may have other issues at play., not just a mod.

  • Hey thanks for the reply! and yes the bike was running perfect before.

I did some tuning now I am very new to the tuning scene so Lord knows I probobaly did more harm then good but long story short the front cylinder is firing now but I'm almost scared to touch the mixture screws because last time the front clynder was firing me messing with the mixture screws it was caused the front cylinder to go cold again and stop firing.

I will look through the Link you sent and see If I can figure it out, if there is any other knowledge you could send along it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again
