Hey, I'm getting ready to purchase an 03 VT750 spirit. Bike is in one piece, was running a year ago. The owner originally wanted it as a project bike. From the images i can see that the electrical may have been touched. This doesn't bother me a whole lot, I'm proficient enough with electrical for that not to be an issue. My concern however is the engine itself. When i go inspect the bike, how can i make sure I can get it back to running condition (mechanically)? Currently my offer on the bike stands at $800, have not inspected it yet. That happens friday.
Heya!
800 seems like quite a bit for a non running bike that may hide more than just "sat for a while and doesn't run"
It's really going to depend on your skills, willingness, budget.
Keep in mind, you will probably end up dropping quitr a lot more money on the thing even if you get it running.
So if you're looking for something you can ride I would save up and find something else.
If you're specifically looking for a project and know your stuff then maybe.
But the one you described just now gives me all sorts of "nope".
Pulled the trigger bike is mechanically sound, getting it ready for a max performance kit. Removed stock wiring loom, creating custom loom currently. Other than that needs new chain, fluids and filters. Appreciate the input friend.
@D_Hox awesome to hear man!
Do keep us posted, pics are always mad appreciated around here too
@D_Hox as a rule, i wont pay more than $500 for a non running bike. too many question marks, ive screwed myself enough times to know better. ive spent 4k on a bike and ended up putting 6k into repairs a new engine, new frame... yeah. ive made mistakes. at any rate, take your time and have fun man!
Only question I have is do i need a performance rebuild or stock. It has cobra pipes (long open pipes). Intake has a bolt on adapter to accommodate harley air cleaner.
@D_Hox i dont know how free flowing the pipes and intake are. do the bipes have big baffles or are they open? what the filtration element in the harley filter?
