Hey guys I'm looking to purchase a 2005 honda shadow vt1100. My question is....is it worth buying?
I love my VT1100C2. Ample power to cruise and pass cars when needed. I have an 06' Sabre VT1100C2. Rear disc brake and geared a bit differently to make it slightly faster off the start, but the engine is at a bit higher RPM than a VT1100 spirit. The Aero model is pretty cool too with the single pin crank. Has rear disc as well. I'm looking for one of those next. My all time favorite though is my VTX1800. More power than I know what to do with. Fuel injected. Super fun to ride.
@Jeff thanks Jeff for the help I did end up making the purchase it's a fixer upper but it'll be worth it i think
@Gage Clardy One thing I will say with my VT1100C2 sabre is, if you're going to put ANY aftermarket pipes on it, you're going to need to cap the PAIR system. The VT1100 (at least my model) absolutely has it and you'll encounter a crazy amount of deceleration popping if you don't. Also, my carb had never been taken out of my bike before. It had the original aluminum caps over the fuel mixture screws that I removed, an it had the OEM jets. I purchased the TJ Max Performance Kit and couldn't get any ammount of jets to make the bike run properly.
It turns out, the PAIR system exisits on my bike and needed to be capped so it didn't intruduce fresh air into my exhaust on low pressure (deceleration). Also, the bowl floats were WAY out of spec. They're supposed to sit at 9.2mm when measured. I don't know how mine were so off as my carb had never been taken appart or rebuilt before, but my rear cylinder carb was at 15mm, and my front carb was at 13mm causing an overall lean condition throughout the entire throttle range. No ammount of jetting work could have fixed it.
I ended up taking the max performance kit off my bike and I went with a pair of Cobra Dragsters. They sound great.
With the lean condition I was facing with the floats being so off, the max performance kit with the velocity stacks was causing the bike to run incredibly lean. The pipes were burning my leg through my jeans.
I will save these pipes when I find another VT1100 Aero that has the single pin crank and install them on it.
Whatever pipes you go with, while you have your carb bowl takes apart, buy the tool off of amazon, it's less than $20, and do your self a favor that will save you a lot of time. Measure the floats and adjust if necessary. There's a great video you can watch on youtube that shows you how to do it.

Good luck!
I ended up using 48 keihin pilots, and a dynojet kit using their DJ170 main in the front carb, and their DJ175 main in the rear. Their kit also came with a new upgraded needle. For my elevation 4500', I put the e-clip on the 2nd notch from the top. Fuel screw is out 2.5 turns on both carbs.
My bike runs amazing and has a very small amount of low noise popping. No big afterfire bangs like I was encountering before plugging the PAIR system.
