Red Kote blues

  • Hey yall, first post here. I got the vt750 peanut tank, bought some red kote, and followed the instructional video.

Everything was going fine. I was babysitting the tank and had a timer set for 8 mins to rotate the tank and did so on the dot.

Somehow around the 3rd hour the redkote dried up and formed a skin and would no longer move.

I put acetone in to try and thin it out and it didn’t quite work all the way.  As I sloshed it around I began to see flash rust spots forming in the tank. I immediately drained the tank and filled it with fuel to stop any further rusting.

Does anyone know where I went wrong/what could have happened??

  • @Wilson Guenard  I just went thru the same thing, at first it just turned the fuel pink, I drained it all out and ran some new fuel thru it a few times til it stayed clear. And I would guess everything is cool now lol. Im probably gonna run thru a few tanks of gas, then pull the carb and clean it and add the performance tuning kit I bought off TJ and I should be gold. I would do the same.

  • @Wilson Guenard not sure if you saw this but this is the video i made to help you install the lining properly - https://youtu.be/QgeKsaOvADw?si=YLGHhlh5J3kCKApC

  • @Moon The Barber yes it can turn the fuel pink, thats just the dye. if the liner is applied correctly, theres nothignt o worry about.
