Wondering if the bulky chrome fork covers (upper & lower) serve any type of mechanical or preventative purpose? Was considering removing if they don't. Any thoughts appreciated.

@Michael Sparkes you can remove them. but the fork sliders, lowers whatever you want to call them are not nice to look at like the bikes without the shrouds. The top portion of the sliders are usually less aesthetically pleasing. But if you wanna take em off, go ahead, they do act as a kind of pretective shield for the forks but they arent necessary.
