Dual Carb Shorty Choke Deeeeeelema

  • evening fellas,

Have been building out a shadow 750 ace from the ground up. Most is back together from paint and have been rebuilding the carb with TJ kit.

I purchased the shorty choke knobs. Non throttle wheel side is A1 OK. Throttle wheel side, the knob of the choke touches the wheel and also seems to stop it from turning to full throttle.

wondering if I can shim the threaded portion of the shorty choke with a washer or two or if that will impact its function (truthfully I don't understand how this choke works because looking inside I see no moving parts or ports). Otherwise, does anyone know how that knob is attached to the brass rod? If it's glued or screwed and I can remove it I can turn a thinner knob on the lathe.

attached a picture for reference. Old carb was non functional, beyond repair so bought a new one. I swapped the knobs between new and old and had the same issue, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something

    appreciate you all, 🤙🏼

  • @Murphy Glenn you cannot shim a choke knob this willa ffect its function drastically. you cannot remove the knob.
That doesnt look like an actual honda throttle wheel. that look slike a cheap chinesium knockoff and thats likely the issue. the ace carb i have whihs is from a stock bike, doesnt look like yours. does the other throttle wheel have an issue?

  • It is 100% a chinesium throttle. It's actually a 100%
Chensiun carburetor. Using a digital caliper the throttle wheel matches the OG exactly measured from 6/7 reference points and is the same in dimension itself.

measuring, it seems that my issue is actually that the hole that the choke knob threads into sits deeper than the OG carburetor's does.

is the knob press fit on, molded around the brass rod, or screwed into it? If it's just press fit then I'll pull it off and I'll braze a little extra brass rod on.

thanks TJ, sorry for my late reply.

  • @Murphy Glenn no theyre modled onto the shaft. press fit would slide off due to the needx ot pull on the knob. so yes the issues isnt the chokes. its the carb. and id be worried as to why that hole is more shjallow than the stock. thats cause for concern

  • New guy own a Vulcan s 650 that I would like to do this to just wondering where to start
