Thoughts on Yamaha XJ 750 for $300?

  • I am looking at this guy. Clearly this is a project. Not sure if it's worth this? I know it's advised against having a project bike as a first bike but given finances and how long it might take to get me up to buying a rideable bike (through to next spring), could this be an ok project? I know this is minimal info.

  • @JD Armand if youre looking for a project you probabaly wont find a better deal. $350 is pretty dope, you might even negotiate lower! and i would at least try.  if you got time and an internet connection youll probably have a lot of fun and for $350 if you decide to bail on it, you haven't lost much but you could really gain a lot of knowledge and practice for very little. Going to school for motorcycle mechanics would cost way more than $350. but buy a project and you get to do it in your own space with your own tunes and a cold drink!

  • @TJ looks like I missed out trying to negotiate lower but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for something that the risk is low on a first time project. I guess determining the value on a project is tricky especially if it's not running. JD Power will only help so far and has some gaps (missing models).

  • @JD Armand dont look at jd poweer and all that mess. The region where youre looking i  bet you can find a VT750 98 and up or a VT600 88-07 for CHEAP!! Two things you should really check out, are parts availability and online support for whatever model you get. this is gonna make your journey way more fun and actually easier!!
