Increasing compression

  • This is for anybody, but definitely for TJ. I would like to bump the compression up on my 99 Shadow ACE 1100, because the stock compression is only 8:1, or so I'm told. Has anybody had their heads milled, and if so, how much material should be milled off to achieve a 9:1 or 9.2:1 compression ratio? And also, how much effect does this have on jetting? Any info from anyone is greatly appreciated!

  • +@KSquared hey man, not really something people do on these bikes. i do not have any tuning info. be careful with that though, you can brick that motor pretty quick if you dont know what youre doing! LOL! id consult a race shop before you proceed. Have fun man!

  • @TJ Well, my thought is, a typical American V8 engine can usually run just fine on pump gas(87 octane) at about 9.2:1 compression, so I figured a V Twin Honda might be the same. Thoughts? I'm surprised nobody's tried to test the limits of this engine, considering it's supposedly vaunted as one of the most reliable engines Honda has produced recently. Any opinions are welcomed!
