Issues getting needle jet in?

  • Okay, doing my best not to jack up this performance kit install that I'm working on. Getting the old needle jet out took a little effort but not a ton. Problem I'm having now is that I can't get the new needle jet in. Shoot, I can't even get the original back in! Bigger hole first and goes into venturi, right? Concerned about putting too much force into it and screwing up the jet. Anyone come across this issue and have any solutions that aren't going to result in me needing to get another jet after I smash this one up trying to get it in? Thanks for any input, guys.

  • @Rick Orris why did you pull the needle jet out? pictures would help here. 😁

  • Because some guy in a video said to tap it out with a small screw driver prior to cleaning the carb and installing the new needle jet that the same guy sent me in a performance kit. :)

  • If I can get it started into the hole, will screwing in the main jet holder down onto it do the trick and get it far enough into the Venturi?

  • Suspecting there might be a burr in the hole that's causing the jet to hang up, although I'm not seeing any sign of scrapes or gouges on the old jet. Might try to find a small, fine round file and GENTLY see if I can smooth anything out.

  • I'm having the same issue.  2005 vt600. Neither new that came with the rebuild kit or old needle jet will fully seat into the main jet hole.

  • @James Everette I got a small, very fine round file and gently worked around the hole a little bit. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

  • @Rick Orris let me know how the startup goes!

  • I wound up pushing it through with the main jet holder. My needle jet definitely was never loose as the ones in TJ's videos, but the jet holder kind of popped it down and as I threaded it on, everything seated normally.

  • @James Everette AAAhhhhh!! ok for some reason in my head i thought this was a dual carb situation. the dual carb needle jets do not come out easy. the single carb ones usually tap out. what you want to do if its difficult to install is get a brass or aluminum drift ( not steel) and tap it back into place. its usually just some varnish stuck in the passage that makes the re-install a little hard. my sincere apologies for the misunderstanding dude. im so glad you got it sorted out!
