Bro, I'm at a loss. From the begining, 2000 shadow 1100 tourer, I ripped the fuel system apart and rebuilt it. Some issue at first, but was riding for about a week and got very smooth in preformance. Then, it would not start at Walmart. Turns out the starter\kill switch was shorting. I jumped the bike, rode home, and replaced the switch housing complete with new. Bike started and ran out of gas for no apparent reason, full tank. Now, it won't start like fuel is not moving. All fuses are good. Could this be electrical by changing that housing line? I'm chasing gremlins.
if youre not getting fuel why would you assume its electrical?
I'd try just running the fuel from tank to carb. See if it runs. if it does, then fuck the "fuel system" if your petockc working prtoperly? is the tank venting properly? are the carbs full of crap? the diagnoistic sequence is fuel, spark, compression.
So, pop off my fuel lines on the carb and run the fuel into a jar? yeah, ok. It was just I changed an electrical line then it stopped running, but breaking off the carb would tell me if the lower end if the system is the problem. Thanks, bro
@Richard Thompson yeah just dont smoke while doing that LOL
Hey bro. Good advice. Fuel is not being pumped to carb. In line is full, and the line is not kinked or restricted. I'm thinking pump or relay, but I just replaced both. Maybe got a dud. This is what I got on line from the google machine.
You can also try to manually activate the relay by jumping the black and black/blue wires to test
I feel like someone who doesn't have a good handle on this can do some damage. Do you have a video testing the relay and pump electrically?
I really do appriciate what your doing with this forum. Thanks, bro!
@Richard Thompson i do not have a video for that since its incredibly rare and i usually do not run a fuel pump on my bikes.
if the problem began when you "changed an electrical line" then thats where you need to look. the pump is either shot, the electrical line you did something to wasnt done properly, or caused a short, also.. have you checked the fuses? theres also a fuel relay youll want to check if the pump isnt working. that could be bad as well. procedures for testing these are in the manuals =) keep at it! youll solve it!
I've isolated it to the ICM. I'm done. Nothing available on line but used parts for a lot of money with no guarantee of working. You wouldn't be working on a points system by chance for an 1100?
@Richard Thompson haha no, i will not be machining a new crankcase to create an unreliable and antiquated system for which i will have to create all new components LOL Theres no room to add a points plate, it weoul db be basically designing a really antiquated bike all over. that would perform not so well.
honestly i would start looking around local junkyards or even junkyards out of state and just keep an alert on Ebay!
Thanks, brother. Rolled the dice and picked up one on ebay. We'll see when it comes in. Fingers crossed.
