This may be a dumb question for those who are pretty versed in the fabrication arts, so here it is. I own a early 90's honda vtx 600, ive rebuild the carbs( thank you tj), lowered the rear suspension ( i call it a half ass hard tail) and many other lil penny pinching "custom" changes as well as a back draft exhaust. I was just curious on whether or not any one out there has tried cramming a 750, or 1100 engine into a 600 frame? What are the main modifications one would have to make? Where would i be able to find like high compression pistons for my 600, any idea on how much it would cost to have my heads polised ? Is there a bigger cam out there on the market? I just want to ride this thing at WFOT as far as i can go. And i don't really want to buy a bigger bike or a Harley, as ive invested way too much time, effort, blood sweat and tears into it to part with it. Im bound to it, in this life and the next one. Basically id love to shut a few folks up who idily say im riding a girs motorcycle....
@Adam Ready welcome to the forum duder! !
here we go, again LOL!
the engines arent interchangeable, the 1100's are shaft drive too. so you would essentially need to have a vt1100 frame to run the 1100 engine. on chain drives the drives are not lined up with the rear wheel, you would pretty much have to make an entirely custom frame, at which point you would be better off just starting with a vt750 motor and frame.
The 600 engine is not really suited for handling high compression. The architechture of the design pretty much limits the 600 engine to a standard compression setup. the cylinder walls are very close to the water jacket, thus it cant really be bored. there are bigger pistons and rings available but they are to compensate for normal wear and dont really offer anythingin the way of a performance increase. you just cant develop the efficiency needed to run high compression in a small engine designed to run lower compression on 87 octane fuel. no there arent pistons available. its a 600 and its not like a GSXR6 whichis an inline 4 cylinder engine which creates far more power than a v-twin style engine and can be modified to withistand far more compression/heat. No there are not bigger cams for a 600. ive gone down this road and the cost vs reward is retarded and you cant just throw cams in an engine and viola! LOL! you said you are penny pinching so, just a heads up if you want to put the resources into trying to do allt his stuff, youre looking at a pretty big bill! Now all that being said, youre welcome to do what you wish, but i've been doing this for 20 years and seen a lot of dudes start with your ideas. ive seen guys attempt to turbocharge a 600... never works lol! Its a small unit construction cruiser, and i think the bigger issue here is that if you care about what anyone says, calling your bike a girls bike, either A. your motivation may not have much longevity, or B. you should take some martial arts classes and help those folks shut the fuck up HAHAH! i love my 600's and they fucking RIP! i get shit from people all the time dude, but i honestly dont give a fuck. people who run their mouth are usually in the cheapest seats in the house and not even getting int he ring like you are and doing fun shit with their bike. my 2 cents is to build the 600 into a capable and streetable bike, enjoy it and if yoiu really want to make a beast, start with a platform that CAN actually be modified and handle the stresses of a high performance engine! no matter what, make sure youre having fun man!
@Adam Ready Also, Post some pics for us dude!
