Starting point for idle adjuatment

  • Wanted to see how many turns out would be a good starting point for the idle adjuster? Bike has not ran since I purchased it and the dude had it screwed all the way in.

    Thanks.

  • @Scott Facemire i made a great video on how to set the idle! - https://youtu.be/IBoBX1M38Ro?si=Ymy9U9DllRswD-5A

You want to open the idle till you can JUST see the first emulsification hole of the pilot jet on the backside of the carbs or carb. =)

  • @TJ hey tj, I recently got a 1999 shadow vt600 and I'm new to the platform. I think the bike needs idle adjusting but I'm not sure if it's the screw next to the petcock or the one on the carb that needs to be adjusted. The bike doesn't stay running when the choke is fully in. Also I have some backfire while riding which I'm guessing is part of the idle problem between the  air/fuel ratio

  • @Landon Kuzma brother it is time to rebuild those carbs LOL!

the idle adjustment is a black plastic knob right under the throttle wheel on the left side of the carbs.

heres a video series i did on how to rebuild those carbs!
