Need Help diagnosing sputter problem

  • Hello everyone, sorry if i didn't label or title this right i'm brand new here so im open to any constructive criticism. I've recently ran into a problem with my Single Carb 600 VLX where when i'm cruising at highway speeds my bike bogs and spits and sputters really bad unless i'm climbing RPMs/ Speed. This only occurs in the very last gear of the bike. I recently put the velocity stack and boot burners on the bike as well as rejected the carb, i'm sure this is a newbie issue i have over looked, Any help or pointers is much appreciated.!!!!!

  • @Bryce Austin Hey Bryce, adding some poictures of how everything looks, as many angles as possible will really help.
did you replace the intake boot? did you watch all the videos on the Youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS

check the slide, if its not installed correctly or the lip is curled over and letting vacuum in, can cause this issue, is the clise ripped or torn? is the slide new?

  • @TJ Hello, yes i've watched quite a few videos, i didn't replace the boot, but everything else has been replaced, jets, slide is new, what i've come down to is since it only happens at high speeds maybe the air running by the velocity stack is getting too much air? i'm not running the screen so i don't know if the screen will help with a little more restriction,

  • @Bryce Austin you need to run the screen without it you will get a leak.  and that carb looks crooked as fuck LOL
also, ive found that when people have a crooked carb its because the intake boot is not sealed properly, really gotta be meticulous with that stuff. also, a crooked carb will afect the fuel level. the carb needs to be level so the fuel can be drawn into the jets.

  • @Bryce Austin additionally the stack is machined to allow the screen to make a tight fit. without it theres a big gap between the carb and stack and that air WILL affect the performance.

  • TJ you sexy bastard, i put the screen in, straighten up the carb, and it runs fine now, i appreciate you taking the time out of your day to respond to me. i've spent a lot of money on your website, i hope it keeps the lights on! lol all jokes brother i appreciate your help
