Not going into 1st or second gear from neutral

  I have a 2001 shadow 600 and sometimes when I'm in neutral I'll go to first but it won't change gears to first it will still be in neutral same goes with second from neutral. Even when the bike is off and I don't use the clutch it still doesn't go in to gear .. when I roll it back and forth sometimes it will help it go into 1st or second gear, does anybody know what the problem could be ?

  @Isaac Gonzalez its very likely your clutch cable isnt adjusted properly or is binding. honestly ive had a lot of bikes that want to skip over neutral, make sure your clutch is in good condition, make sure the cable isnt too tight or loose, and is lubricated. Make sure your oil is good, remember the oil for the clutch is the same oil thats share dwith your top end so that stuff gets dirty pretty fast.

  @TJ even without using the clutch it still does it tho ???
