Hello, Im currenly rebuilding a VT600 1991 dual carb (build year 1988 on the fram sticker and its a european bike but originally came with a MPH gauge.)
Im following the awesome instruction videos on the carb rebuild and ran into a difference... My carbs do mnot have the air fuel mixture screws? The holes have been plugged. Ill post a picture.
Can i still use the performance kit? Is it possible to open the ports? What to do
Greetings, Co (the Netherlands)
@Eelco Scholten you do have mix screws, theyre under the plugs. please watch this video series for exactly where to drill out the plugs. - https://youtu.be/gYLGWX_y_v8?si=1lP9Ns0qJtojAcRR
if you drill out the wrong plugs you will be absolutely fucked and have to buy another set of carbs which is no fun for anyone.
youll need a drill bit with a drill stop so you dont drill into the stock mix screw. then i use a screw extractor to pull the plugs out.
but you gotta be careful. and dont drill the wrong plug! please take your time, pay attention and go slow, its not difficult it just takes some patience and soft hands. =)

Thanks!
Went to work and got them out no problem! Now i just need to borrow my buddies ultrasonic cleaner! Found out the previous owner clearly throught he didn't need some of the gaskets and o rings... missed the oval ones on both carbs and one floatbowl gasket.
and you wonder why it didnt run smooth. Thing was filthy to.
thanks again for the help!
@Eelco Scholten glad you got it figured out! Thanks for letting us know!
@TJ those "wrong plugs" the ones that are not the air fuel mixture screw covers. I think it's like a 7/16 plug and a 5/16 plug? Or whatever it is in mm. Could you please tell me what they are plugging. I cannot for the life of me find anything online other then "freeze plugs" but I'm fairly certain coolant doesn't go into the carburetors of a Honda shadow.
@Elias Labrador They are plugging the air/fuel passages in the carburetor because its necessary to machine or drill the passages into the carb from the outside of the body, then the entry points are plugged with aluminum plugs. to keep the pasage sealed from outside air.
I dont know the size because I've never pulled them out. I've seen other people try to unfuck their mistake of removing the wrong plugs and in those instances, they could never get the carb tuned right afterward and i suspect its from small air leaks in their repair job. theres no "freeze plugs" on the carb. and freeze plugs are bowl or cup shaped plug put in the opposite way that these aluminum plugs are installed.
Coolant goes to the single carb on the single carb versions of the VT600 and the VT750 AERO, and the VT750 Spirit but it doesnt go INTO the carb, it just goes into a flow-through Y junction and goes back out into the radiator.
