Sprocket sizing to gain more top end

  • Hi Lads

could anyone help in regards to changing Sprockets to gain a bit more top end speed?

I have an 88 600 4 speed and she is ringing her neck out at around 120km an hour, wanted to see if the brains trust has any help to give it a few more km's / Mph with a sprocket change. She is really pokie around town and don't mind losing a bit of the bottom end would just love to make it more comfortable on the highway.

    cheers legends

  • a sproecket change isnt really going to get you much more in the way of speed, what it will do is reduce the RPMS in the higher gear range, there is a trade-off though. Your take-offs will be much more sluggish.

75mph (120KMPH) is pretty dismal for a 600, but sounds right for a stock bike.

The first thing you can do to get more power out of the bike is open the intake and exhaust and TUNE. The stock bike is tuned to be very anemic. Stacks, performance intake kit, and any of our open exhaust, paired with a new set of intake boots is a surefire way to get the most out of that bike. barring there are no oither issues, I would start there and you will defintiely get a marked increase in HP. once you do that, you can decide if a gear tooth reduction in the rear is for you or not.
