1996 VT1100c ACE Max Performance Kit

  • Howdy, y'all from down in Florida!

I got the Max Performance kit and I was wondering if anyone in the dirty south, if you will, has rejetted their carbs with the Kit and, if so, which set of jets did you go with?

I am new to the world of messing with/modding the jets in carbs, having always just used stock replacements. I have three of each set of jets to choose from. Should I go with the middle size for both? Or go large? This is all at sea level and aside from a few weeks here and there, the weather is not cold (and, honestly, if it gets down toward freezing, I am NOT gonna be riding!).

Just hoping someone on here has already experimented and can save me the fumbling and bumbling =)

    Pics for the curious

  • @PKG_GNV heres a link to all the tuning information youre gonna need - t.ly/vE7Jo

    Start there. =)

  • @TJ thanks! I already downloaded and read that and several of the other jpgs that had similar information, and I found them to be really informative. That being said, I could not find guidance on the variations of the three different size jets. They're just there. A chart of some sort that shows the stock jets and the general implications of each of the replacement jets. For example, is one set nearly the same as the stock jets and one leaner and one richer? I can guess by the numbers, but I don't know what I am talking about :/

Maybe: hey y'all: this set will bring your ride up to snuff with the max performance kit, this set is for all y'all at higher eleveations or colder weather, and this set is for those of you down at sea level in warm climates.  Since these are custom jets, I cannot find any cross reference except a Word doc someone posted in a forum that deals with a specific combo:

"The following information and directions are specifically for rejetting a 1995 Honda Shadow ACE VT1100C2 with the Vance and Hines Straightshots system http://www.vanceandhines.com/ and a K&N Filter. The jet kit used is from Dynojet/K&N http://www.dynojet.com/. "

I just figured since the velocity stacks, the carb kit, and the exhausts were all yours, there would be more brand specific guidance.

I am excited about getting all of this together and singing the praises of the kit!

  • Google AI gave me this feedback, but I don't want to blindly trust AI:

Here are the specific, commonly found, and aftermarket jetting configurations for the 1996 VT1100, depending on modifications:

    Stock Jetting (1988–1996)

    Pilot Jets: #42

    Main Jets: #165

    Modified Jetting (Aftermarket/Stage 1-4 Kits)

If you have installed aftermarket pipes (like Cobra or Vance & Hines) or a free-flowing air filter, you will likely need to adjust the jetting to avoid a lean condition.

    Stage 1 (Stock Airbox/Aftermarket Pipes):

    Pilot: #42

    Main: #178–182 (varies by kit)

    Stage 3 (Aftermarket Air Intake/Exhaust):

    Pilot: #45

    Main: #182–188

    Stage 4/High Performance (Open Exhaust/Intake):

    Pilot: #48

    Main: #188–190

    Important Notes for 1996 VT1100

Jet Staggering: Some users report finding different main jet sizes in the front and rear carbs (e.g., 132/138, though these appear to be non-standard). It is recommended to check your specific carbs if they have been previously serviced.

Jet Source: Kits from 6 Sigma or Dynojet are common for this bike to handle performance modifications.

Adjustment: When re-jetting, it is often necessary to adjust the air/fuel mixture screws, usually setting them to 2.5 turns out from seated.
