Hello I just bought a broken 2000 Honda Shadow 1100 aero vt1100c3. I was told that he installed velocity stacks and took it out on the highway and it was going good and then something broke and he lost a lot of power and oil started coming out the rear exhaust. I was personally thinking he didn't tune after installing them and it made the motorcycle run very lean very hot and broke something in the rear cylinder valve valve stems piston rings. I was wondering is there any other things that I need to look out for? I have another bike exact same year and model with transmissions screwed so I was planning on frankensteining it with other bike to make one working one. Thanks for the info
@bikerforce89 I'm sorry man but velocity stacks are not going to break something to where you blow oil out your exhaust. Velocity stacks would not 'cause that you would have to ride the bike so stupidly lean for years especially on a very strong bike like 1100 before anything happened and before that you'd have many warning signs You would have smoke coming out of a cylinder purse very little amounts and then it would be bigger amounts and then bigger amounts you wouldn't just go from riding fine then bang explosion.
What likely happened is there was already pre existing condition that he was unaware of. A lot of people will buy a bike and then throw our kits on thinking it's gonna fix the bike but the problem is if you don't address the underlying problems first you're not going to be set for success.
What I would do if I was in your shoes pull the motor and start taking it down from the top Take your time Be meticulous with how you store the parts Take pictures of everything Get a decent set of calipers mic things O you can determine what is within operatrional spec and what is not. If oil is blowing out the exhaust then you either have a ring problem a piston problem or a valve problem It's that easy.
