Velocity stacks, boot burners, new carb boots, and brutal carb tune kit. I have pulled the carbs 3x now and feel I have the jets/mix-screw/idle set correctly but I still get a bog/hesitation on 3rd and 4th gear from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle - idle and WOT is fine. When I pull the "choke" (enrichment circuit) while riding the bog goes away telling me I'm lean. The bowl isn't emptying because it's fine at WOT. I do not believe there are any vaccum leaks. I have two shims per needle and read I can't add another shim nor dill another hole or widen the current hole in the slides. Any suggestions much appreciated! current jets are front 48/145 and rear 48/148. I live in the northeast of the USA.
@JONATHAN HOBBS dont use different sizez of jets on the carbs, match both sides, also if your jet needle doesnt move up and down freely and wiggle side to side you need to clip down the post that holds the spring for the needle. clip it down so that the spring still fits on it but so that with the shims, the needle has some flex.
did the bike run perfectly before you tried all this or was it a basketcase or something?
@TJ I bought the bike in December in rough stock condition - freezing outside where I live. I was able to grunt my was through a quick 15 minute ride but to answer the question, yes, there was hesitation 3rd gear - didn't make it to 4th... I thought the issue would go away with the carb rebuild. I'll try to clip the post and match the jets. Thank you
