I am working on a chopper that has a 1980 Shovelhead engine in it. Whenever the chopper fires up, the oil starts coming out of a breather behind the primary. I've torn down the engine and the oil pump seems to be working alright. Anybody have any advice for how I can fix this problem?
@cadenadams620 most common cause is oil pump is not returning oil fast enough from the vcrankcase.
feed side fills the envine scavenging side cant keep up. crankcase fills with oil, pistons whip it up, pressure builds, oiol blows out the breather.
pull the return line does it STRONGLY return oil into the tank?
if you have a weak dribble like a 70yr old man takling a piss.... thats your problem.
the fix is to rebuild opr replace the pump. and bluepriont if you know how.
next option is wet sumping which is common with shovels. which is oil is leaking past the check ball into the crankcase so you need ot clean or replace the check ball and spring, and inspect the seast because the actual seat might be pitted or deformed in which case, that pump is toast.
try that stuff and let us know what you find
