I bought the 6 inches slugs fork extensions, what now?

  • I love the new look, but with great forks comes great problemes and I have questions.

-Do I just accept the lean of doom (will the bike tip over?), or do I machine and weld another kickstand?

-What do I do with the speedo cable? Can I just solder a longer cable in accordance with the gauge size of the speedo cables or will It change the resistance of the line and give false readings?

    - Do I have to retune the carb and add engine oil because of the greater angle?

  • We used to weld a onch inch square hunk of steel to the bottom of the kick stand.

Callemed "Clubfoot". Back when they made steel kick stands that could be welded on.

Get a longer cable, might have to have one made. I seem to do that a lot.

Should run the same, check oil level, Ive never added any, and have club footed several.

  • Thanks for the replie, Eric! I will consider those options and will buy another speedomeder cable.

  • @Larry Halle

you can lean the bike, it will be fine, i have a 750 with an 8over springer and it leans way over. trust me, its cool shit.
If you want you can weld an extension to your kickstand.

you dont need a speedometer. problem solved.

no you dont need to do anything with oil or tuning.

  • Alright I'll just let it lean! If you tell me anything won't brake, I wont take the chance of adding structural failure points(welds) that are no needed.

You're right about the speedo, but I'll still run my front brake. I bought a 43 inch line, is it long enough?

  • @Larry Halle i have no way of knowing if what you bought is long enough. You would need to measure to determine that. heres a helpful video to assist you in finding the perfect length of cables, lines etc - https://youtu.be/ZJbspsIuyaQ?si=-8f_dsYFrMBjCfoN

  • @TJ Thanks man, I saw that video. It's helpfull! Now I need to do the job and test ride the bike when spring comes around. If I die you'll know to not run 43 inches cheap chinese brake lines on a spirit with stock bars and slugs.

    Keep doing what you do.

  • Just so I know what the talk is about the term slugging the tubes meant taking a 2 inch long piece of pipe and compressing the fork springs further down, extending the tube.

Ive never heard of 6 inch, unless they are premade extended tubes.
