1997 Honda Shadow ACE Club Style Build

  • I’m in search of a Honda guru, so I figured this is the best bet.

I have a 1997 Honda shadow ACE. I’m not into the bobber/chopper scene and I want to try building mine into a club style Shadow, being that it’s not seen very often.
I would like install taller shocks, 13.5-14” to lift the ass end. Will there be any rubbing on the fender or internal interference with drive shaft?

If everything works as expected, I would like to know what the inside diameter of the stock shock eye is, so I can reuse the existing hardware. If anyone has the dimensions of the hardware that would also be a huge help

  • @COLLIN MIKE HUNT I'm guessing youre referring to an 1100 ACE. since the VT750 ACE wasnt released until 1998. and it wasnt shaft drive.

the issue is if you try to dyna-bro your bike you will put the shaft drive at an extreme angle. The total operating angle is not designed to exceed the stock shock travel which is 3.5 to 4 inches.  you will not be able to achieve this look with the VT1100 due to the shaft drive operational angle limitations.
Stock shocks eye to eye are about 11.75 to 12.25 depending on year and model but pretty roughly the same. you can probably call progressive and order a shock one inch taller and tuned for yoru riding style, but i would not go any higher than that.

im curious why youre asking for the shock eye diameter when you could just remove your own shocks and measure yourself??

  • @TJ I kinda figured that would be the case, hence you don't see model specific shocks for sale that run taller. I haven't taken the existing shocks off which is why I was asking for the hardware dimensions. Figured I'd ask before tearing something apart just to put it right back on.

    Thanks for the clarification
