  • Heya!

There are honestly many many different options.
And it will all depend on:
    - What budget you have
    - What you're looking to get out of it
    - What you think looks good and makes you happy.

Sadly it's neigh impossible for us here to just tell you what to get, as it's very personal.
Best thing to do is to get your license (if applicable and if you don't have it already) and just go out and try some bikes.
See what feels good and what doesn't.

  • @mike i have a few videos on the youtube channel that cover just this kind of stuff for beginners!

  • I'm a new rider too, Female 5 foot 3, was considering a Honda Rebel 500, but I've always absolutely loved the Honda Shadow. I have a friend encouraging me to get a Shadow so I'm wondering if it's a good beginner bike for a 160lb female? I'm hoping the answer is yes cause they are just damn sexy.

Considering a VT600 I assume anything bigger would be hard to handle the weight of but correct me if I'm wrong.

Also wanna learn how to Mod and Maintain my own bike, this seems like the right place to be for that if I had a shadow. Thanks!

  • Hey @Kristi Knupp,

Honda Shadow VLX 600 / VT600C are cool bikes. If you are 5'3 those probably fit right. Would  ALWAYS test ride / test sit some different models if I were you, see what fits you best. Those 600/750 honda shadows are quite customizable which is very nice.

Lastly I don't know how important it is for you but more CC / more horsies is kind of nice. I've got a VT1100 myself, when I open the throttle something amazing happens. I also went for a bigger bike because I'm 6'3. They are less customizable but yeah got to make it work. Also they are kind of cheaper where I live than the VT600/750's.

    Goodluck!✌

  • @Kristi Knupp Hi Kristi! A VT600 is an excellent choice for a first bike. they have the lowest seat heigh tof any cruiser in its class, and if you decide to chop and modify a bit that seat can get even lower.
They are very easy to modify and Ive got a LOT of videos on Youtube that can help you in your journey!
