Hey all. I'm a long time rider, going on 40 years now. I'm riding a 2014 Raider that I totally love. I do SOME of the maintanace, since I'm not that confident cranking a wrench.
However, I now find myself with time and a small amount of disposable income. (I know!! In this economy?)
I want to try doing a light, and I emphasise light, custom, so I'm looking for a good choice for a base bike. I was thinking a 2000's HD Sporty 883, since there's about seven million after market bits and they are reasonably cheap to buy.
Any other thoughts? Thanks!!!!!
@michaelrys the issue with harleys is if you dont have a comprehensive history of the bike, and know it was maintained, a lot of those things have been ridden hard and hung up with no oil and a leaky head gasket LOL!
im partial to the VT600, because even with a negligent owner, they can take a lot of abuse and still have plenty of life in them. just my .02
I think that is perfect advice. You can learn working on a shadow . With the support of the group as well as all his videos on YouTube on the same bike . Start in you skill level and work your way up . These bikes can be done real sexy man check some of the images in google. Mechanically you can work your way from doing small things like new bars or grips to chopping the back half to go hard tail .
Think your in the right place man .
