Hi all! New here. Been riding Harley's for a while. In between bikes and have always liked the looks of the Shadow Aero 750. My buddy rode one on a trip we took to TX a few years ago. It was a 04 model. It was only getting 90 miles per tank at about 80mph.
if I buy one I will travel on it but long trips are seldom. Most distance is 4.5 hours to PCB. I'm 6'1, 240
Any advice?
@jasongamble.email mpg involves a lot of factors
1. Quality of fuel
2. condition of ignition system, are the plugs fouled and or not giving out full spark? Are the wires rock hard and not conducting well? Are the coils within operational resistance?
is the bike tuned properly? are you running super rich? this will result in incomplete combustion, not burning all the fuel and thus wasting gas and not givign you the power per mile you need. this also fouls the plugs making the engine much less efficient.
weight on the bike
3. weight on the bike. no offense but if youre a big dude, it will take more fuel to move the bike., if you have a person plus a bunch of heavy gear = lower mpg im 275 and my 600's and 750's haul my ass around at 120mph no problem.
4. How do you take off from a stop? do you slam the throttle? In my personal experimentation, i have seen my mpg go from 45-50mpg down to 25 and below, all because i rolled the throttle much harder from a stop. This plays a way bigger part on bikes than people think.
5. wind and grade. yup if youre riding into the wind, this will drop mpg. and if youre going uphill both ways LOL yeah thats gonna drop the mpg's as well.
the aero has a 3.7 gallon tank and 24mpg isnt fantastic. so id start with a real complete tune up. and then be mindful of the way you hit the throttle. start there!
if youre really concerned about mpg, get a prius LOL
@jasongamble.email my 05 aero get about 50-55 mpg highway. In the city I get probably 30 mpg
