Hey all, I've got a 1995 Honda Shadow VLX 600. It's bone stock. Naturally I've been following TJ's channel and this website for months. I've been looking at the velocity stacks as well as the performance carburetor rebuild kit. While I do like the exhaust's offered here I also enjoy the look of the stock exhausts and I was curious if it is possible to keep the stock exhausts on, replace the air box with velocity stacks and install the carb performance kit and have the bike perform normally. I know it would run best with open exhausts and I may change my mind but I figured I'd ask if anyone has any experience in this area. Thank you for you time.
@Dustin Telja Hi Dustin! You CAN run the stock exhaust, but youre not gonna really get a lot out of pulling the carbs and running stacks and tuning, it will be a bit underwhelming for all the effort. Youll get a small boost, but nothing compared to going open intake and exhaust. yes i have experience with this, ive tried it and run it so i speak form experience here.
Sup fellas? I'm new to the forum. I have a couple similar questions as Dustin....
I got a '02 600 VLX deluxe 2 1/2 years ago (1st bike ever) and I also like the look of the stock pipes. I hated the "moped" sound of them though. My older buddy, who used to ride years ago, told me that he made a drill bit extender tool and would drill the baffles out of his Harley pipes to make them louder back in the day. So, I went over last summer and we drilled the end baffle out of each pipe. My first question is 2 parts
1 a) Does anyone know how many baffles are in each pipe?
1 b) If I was to drill all of the baffles out, would that be, essentially, the same as running open/straight pipes?
My bike actually runs great right now. Carb seems to be working just after my buddy did a semi-rebuild the 1st year I got it. I'm not confident enough in my ability to do a complete rebuild, so do y'all think that just the rejet kit and velocity stack, as well as drilling out al the baffles from the stock pipes would that give me the same performance boost that TJ says comes with the complete performance upgrade package?
@Joshua Evenson Hey Dude! go ahead and post this as a new topic instead of hijacking the OP thread LOL I will happily go answer there!
