HONDA Steed 400 SE Asia

  • Hello from the Philippines!

I am a UK expat currently living and working with my family in the Philippines.

I am the proud owner of a HONDA Steed 400 the only decent priced V-Twin cruiser I could get here, of which I believe to be the smaller brother of the HONDA Shadow (TBC).

In my former life in the UK I used to ride a Suzuki VS1400 Intruder of which would overtake anything except a gas station.

Any  400 cc is the minimum capacity they will allow on the expressways here, hence their popularity in the Philippines, Japan and Thailand, and there are some excellent and really cool custom builds. But unlike my previous bike with 1000 cc in the difference I do find them a struggle when overtaking speeding busses and 18 wheelers when I am travelling between jobs. I am here looking for alternatives and upgrades.

  • @Mark O' Hara yoiu are correct! the steed is the 400cc  version of the VT600,

You can run velocity stacks and open pipes and with proper tune, get a good power boost!
id also recommend you do an ignition system upgrade - the wires, resistor caps and plugs, make sure the plugs are gapped properly too. this will really help combustion and to keep things running efficiently. you may also want to ensure you have a good flexible chain, good sprockets, and that your tires arent too low in pressure. these can all affect your ability to get power when youre already accelerating.

  • @Mark O' Hara If you ever come across an owners manual or service manual id love to get my hands on one! cant get that stuff in the US!
