Question

  • Hi tj thank you for accepting me on your forum.  i have a question  i have a 1989 Honda shadow vt1100c i have been having trouble with no spark on cylinder 1 i have replaced the coils an still have no spark? I am suspecting that its the pulser sensors i wonder if you sell the pulse sensor or have any idea where i can get them?

  • @Enrique Murillo Its generally a bad idea to jump to expensive solutions first when diagnosing. YTu replaced the coil but made no mention of why? was the coil bad? im going to ask questions since you only stated that you replaced the coil.
Did you check to see if the coil was even getting power? Did you check the coil for ground? Did you test the coil with a voltmeter for resistance? Did you replace the spark plugs? Resistor caps? Ignition wire? these are all very simple to test and most cost little to no money. I would say that 75% or more issues that folks encounter on their bike are really simple and with some patience and very little money spent can be remedied.

If youre convinced its the coils, A good test is just to swap the coils and see if the symptom changes cylinders if it does, then its the coil. if it doesnt, then its the plugs, wires, caps, or that specific circuit.
if its that wiring circuit, then take a look at thge wiring diagram and start tracing the circuit to make sure its getting power all the way through the circuit. this will very likely reveal an issue, a worn wire, a bad ground. now a bad pulse sensor would very likely quit working for both coils at the same time.

if you want to know if you are actually getting spark, pull a plug out, connect it to the resistance cap, set the threads on the fins of the engine and if you tap the start button, you should see a little blue spark. if you arent getting any spark, then you really want to start with the cheapest fixes first. or just test things for function befor eyou spend any money at all =)

And to answer your question We dont sell pulsers but you can find them online if you determine that is the issue.

  • First of all thank you for your response, well the reason I replaced the coils is because one of the coils had a crack and I thought that was the issue. Now that i replaced the coil for new ones I checked both and I had power all the way to the coil number two but the one still has no spark and I thought it was a wire but I did already traced every wire and tested all the way down to the CDI and everything is working in order. Now I checked the pulser sensor wires and two of the cables don't have any voltage signal at all. So thats why I'm suspecting that its the pulser sensor but I can not find them anywhere.

  • @Enrique Murillo Aha! ok you sneaky dog! you only gave me a snippet of the story! so it sounds like youve done the right stuff!! great job man!!!
So this ignition pulse generator part was used from 87 to 90. So you will need to find a part from one of those year vt1100's.  Just google VT1100 30300-MM8-000 and a lot of stuff comes up, youll prob just have to try and find one used online somewhere. A lot of ebay parts sellers actually post pictures of a bike running, and they are selling every individual part from it. Thats what i would look for. good luck and be sure to post back here if you actually get her running and fixed! Thanks again for sharing and asking all the questions man!
