    Hello everyone. I live in a rural area in Ireland and recently bought my second Shadow. I had a VT500 Shadow about 30 years ago and just got a 1993 VT1100. I love it! I've had several bikes over the years but I've always loved vintage Italian scooters and still have my 1968 Lambretta SX200. I can diagnose and fix most things on a 2 stroke engine but I'm pretty lost on where to start on my Shadow. My Shaddlow has been unused for a few years and runs well but there are some problems. It occasionally leaks coolant and overheats. This week I used the run switch to kill the engine for the first time and since then I've no headlights. I don't have easy access to a repair shop but I'm not afraid to try; I just don't know where to start. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    There should be contactor that disconnects the headlights when you push the start buitton to route all power to the starter (or at least there is on my 03 750), that's usually the first check after the bulb itself.
    Coolant leaks are either in the engine (bad), the radiator (kinda bad), or one of many hoses (use flashlight and look around, replace as needed). Hose kits for bikes are pretty cheap, you don't want one bursting while riding (don't ask me how I know).
