2002 Honda shadow 750 ace

  • Hello everyone I'm not to sure how all this works but I have a question for the community. I just got my first ride no to long ago and its a 2002 honda shadow 750 ace and it ran really great when I first got it it only has 7000 miles, I use this to commute to work and ride every day, recently its been giving a ton of issues and I had to clean the tank and replace the fuel filter but its still really dirty. And now it has a rhythmic knock in the engine it sounds like and I have already changed the oil and still really not running. Do I attempt to fix this bike or get a new bike ?

  • I wouldn't write the bike off yet. A 2002 Shadow 750 with only 7,000 miles is usually worth repairing. The fact that your tank is still producing dirty fuel tells me you likely haven't fixed the root cause yet. Rust and debris can keep contaminating the carburetors, causing poor running and noises that can sound mechanical.

Before spending money on another bike, I'd stop riding it and determine whether the knock is truly internal. Clean or replace the fuel tank, rebuild the carburetors, flush the fuel system, and inspect the oil for metal. Use a mechanic's stethoscope to pinpoint the noise. If it's a rod knock, that's a different story, but don't assume the engine is ruined until you've confirmed where the noise is coming from.

  • I appreciate that bro thank you I will definitely be fixing this bike and ill make sure to post updates!!

  • Hey guys I took your advice and got a mechanics stethoscope and gave my bike a listen and didn't really hear anything to crazy at all but I do have a hunch that its running on one cylinder the previous owner had that issue and may be the cause of that noise?! Any tips on how to get both cylinders moving again
