85 year old rider

  • I've been riding since 1958,,had many rides, accidents, hospitalization, but I'm still here and now scaling down to a VT 750 spirit because I can't handle a 630 pound bike anymore. I have a 2012 orange shadow I bought the other day and paid too much for it.  It only has 4,600 miles on it,  but I don't think it was taken care of very well. Still had the original oil in it, original tires etc. So I'm in the process of rehabbing the poor thing,  like a stray dog you take in because you feel sorry for it. I might be asking a lot of questions in the future,  so bear with me.

  • Heya!

    Welcome in!
Sounds like the bike needs some well deserved TLC, but given the low mileage it should honestly be fine after some good maintenance!
Especially considering 2012 is not that long ago compared to some of the shennanigans I've seen over the years.
Same way my current 1991 shadow VT600 had 20 year old tires on it hahaha.

I'm sure you'll be fine doing a simple oil + oil filter change, some fresh tires and a good once over of the brake pads and general state of the bike.
Although with the low mileage the pads are probably still within spec (do check though)
