what I done
-straight piped
-v stack
-rebuilt carb with the kit
whats happening now.
Bike ran, pretty good to be honest except idle (I do know i needed to get the idle sorted but got horny and wanted to go for a ride) was a bit iffy thinking it was a vac leak.. took it for a blast down the road everything purred except on decel i had some afterfire and was a bit boggy. bike died in my driveway and now wont start again.
what ive checked,
Pulled carb and rechecked it like 5 times now, clean as hell.
unburnt fuel in intake manifold
Cant check spark plugs because no one in a 200km radius to me has the bloody right sockets, should have one turn up tomorrow.
was running pilot 50, main 48 with 2 shims on needle
Just making sure, are the carb boots still okay?
@Smeltie they seem so, were pretty flexible. the confusing part is after i rebuilt carb it literally ran and took it for a ride. its only after it died that it wont start again
update - pulled plugs, actually started for a half second after they were pulled but they were pretty fouled and one had a weakish spark so gonna replace those today then see what happens.
@Jakob Paul sounds like you ran the bike too rich, and you fouled the plugs. this is why i recommend starting leaner when tuning. 👍
Fixed! fucking retarded as hell down here. New spark plugs fixed it then dropped main down to 42
update, took bike for pretty decent run and rides good through all the gears as far as i can tell. Still getting sooty plugs and afterfire, dropped down to 1 shim 42main and 50 pilot. fuel mix screw is at 1 1/2 turns out.
checked for vac leaks around intake boot and exhaust and seems fine. sort of stumped
@Jakob Paul afterfire is unburnt fuel ignitiing in the exhaust. drop your pilot down. if that doesnt change anything, start checking the sparky system. plugs - proper gap, fresh resistor caps, fresh wires, fresh coils.
Hey Guys, problems solved as another pops up haha.
Dropped pilot to #48, ditched shims and have main at #142, plugs are finally looking good and everything appears to be running saweet.
Question though, these Reed valve things, should I have blocked them off? I havent touched them yet and was wondering if thats why Im still getting some moderate afterfire/popping in the pipes on decel?
@Jakob Paul bro. you cant leave those open LOL no wonder your shit wont run 😂
put the covers back on them and use a vacuum plug to cap off the nipple. or you can pick up a nice set of these - t.ly/SIvoF
bro cant believe i missed this shit, literally havent touched them at all haha. only reason I clicked was because I was looking for fender struts specific for shaft drive. I'll block them off then order some plates
update, blocked off hoses with bolts and all my afterfire/backfire/crackling bullshit has gone
@Jakob Paul HAHA all good dude! glad its resolved!!
