04 shadow

  • New here and to riding, bought a 04 600 vlx, had been sitting awhile, battery, plugs, tank drain and clean, seems to run good, but there are two issues that have me concerned, oil wells up where the rear jug bolts to the frame on the left side (while mounted) and i keep getting this yellow residue between the cylinders, put a new pitcock valve in when I took the tank off, with a filter, the original clamp was allowing a drip so replaced it with a hose clamp, I dont see any dripping just the residue. Any info on these issues would be a great help. Thanks in advance!

Side note: it was wrecked but in a parking lot, the person learning to ride panicked, target fixated and jumped a curb, maybe some whiskey throttle thrown in. I've only went up to 45 mph so far(new rider) tried once to push to 55 and felt like the bike went from stable to unstable but being new it could have been nerves. Been told it was likely nerves because I'd feel it before then and that those bikes dont really like highway speeds. Had a more expirenced rider hop on and his conclusion was it felt fine to him.

Apologies the more I write the more I remember, the front seems so make a clicking sound after 10mph up to 35mph. I get the sensation that there's movement forward and back but not side to side..but not in the bars..seems completely stable leaning for as much as I am.

Trying to figure out what is just paranoia and what is an actual problem Thanks for any info. Is it worth putting $ into or did I get screwed

  • @Richard Trantham im gonna be straight up with you man, if youre having issue pushing a 600 past 45mph i am going to recommend against messing with the mechanics of the bike just yet. if you think the bike is unstable ( basedon the questions you have, it tells me you are very new to this, no offense meant, just facts! id bring it to a shop thats qualified to ascertain whether theres any ACTUAL issues or if you are just overthinking!  i say this because it doesnt sound like you have the confidence yet to make wise decisions regarding the mechanical safgety of the bike, and getting an internet diagnostic at your stage, might result in some not so fun stuff.  however having a quiaified shop check it out can help you to take that first step in understanding, what is likely normal and what is actually an issue. best of luck out there and have fun man!!! youll get it dialed in!
