Help

  • New to the forum, but have had my shadow for a few years. Have a couple questions though since things have arisen. Need/want to elimate the handlebar switches on my '96 vt1100c. Mainly cause half of them them don't work anymore do to being broken or just don't work. Know where to get the parts obviously but question is the wiring to relocate and delete certain things. Want to relocate the turn signals and high/low beam, delete the kill switch, and relocate the start button. Have looked through many different forums and none agree on the wiring. When it comes to my bike. It's not an ace or spirit, just a regular vt1100c sold in the Canadian market despite it moving in MO now lol. Anyways, someone that's done it let me know the what goes to what and the how to of it plz? Again 1996 vt1100c. Fully built bike this is just the last piece of the puzzle. It's jetted, tuned, full intake/exhaust and all the fun stuff. But turn signal lever broke off, dimmer switch quit working, and finally start button went out so time to clean up the bars finally.

  • Anybody that's done it before is going to tell you that you're gonna have to get your hands dirty to know everything with 100% certainty. Wiring diagrams are online, but the only way I really understood what I was doing was when I dismantled a switch and really laid eyes on wires.

get yourself a lot of heat shrink, a good pair of crimps and wire strippers, some wire nuts FOR TEMPORARY TEST CONNECTIONS! Wire nuts aren't permanent, but they're useful to test your shit before you finalize. Hook your battery up to a tender and do one at a time. Go slow, and don't finalize anything until everything is where you want it. Some basic electrical knowledge and enough beer will make it a decent project.
