Honda shadow vlx 600 won't crank at all.

  • Please help I have a 1999 honda shadow vlx 600 single carb. I went for a ride one day and while I was riding my bike stalled from being too rich when I went to start it again it kept making a clicking noise. After some research I thought it might be the starter solenoid so I got a new one after I installed it still not cranking. I checked the starter motor just to be sure and all the fuses.

  • Battery voltage good? The clicking the the solenoid closing.

  • When I tested the battery voltage with a multimeter it was showing 12.5 volts.

  • Have you tried hooking up the battery to a charger or jumper just to try it out? While it's a 12v battery, it should usually be a little over 13 when everything's off. This gives it the extra juice it needs to crank. Start with the easiest solution and go from there 🫡

  • Is it a vlx600cd? If so it has a fuel pump, those can make a significant clicking noise.

  • @D_Hox no it the one without a fuel pump.

  • So it turns out the starter relay solenoid went out.  I bought a new one and installed it, and the bike cranked and started. Thanks, everyone, for your help. I really appreciate you guys!

  • @terrancelockhart42  you have an AFP. watch this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0fYNWPkwp0

im not saying thats your problem but its a recalled part and if you havent bypoassed it yet, you need to.

  • @terrancelockhart42 you need to test under load. voltage meter on the batery, then try to start, if youre sitting at 12.5 without a load, then i guarantee your battery is gonna drop below that under load. and these bikes do not like anything less that 12.5-8 UNDER LOAD.  easy test.
additionally, if the battery is 3 years old, id replace it.
