I recently installed the performance kit on my 08 Aero. As I last reported, I'm running just a hair width this side of rich with the fuel mixture screw literally closed. If I open it just a little, she starts putting out black smoke.
So after some digging, I'm wondering if the fit on the needle and needle jet that I got with the kit is "off". Looking at the stock needle and jet that I removed, they're snug with the needle pushed most of the way into the jet. With the new ones, though, I can get the needle almost the whole way up to the head of the needle into the jet and even there there's a little wiggle and play.
So seems like that could be how gas is getting into my carb when none should be there as there looks to be just enough play to let gas through even if the needle's fully in. Any thoughts on this? Am I crazy off-base or is this a possibility?

TJ Admin Staff memberModeratorMember who has the rights to delete posts, and ban members form forum if they violate the rules.@Rick Orris so have you put the stock needle in the slide and the stock needle jet back in the carb? seems like the logical next thing to try? try running the stock needle jet and needle. not every bike is the same. thats why there is no XYZ formula to set up your carb. i think you may be on the right track though!

@TJ Thanks! Yeah, that was my next step but the difference between the fit of the old and new jet and needle seemed big enough that I wanted to check first.
