Exhaust Studs Too Short?

  • I'm trying to instlall my new exhaust (Backdraft) on my 08 Aero. Yes, I removed the original exhaust and I did remove the original copper rings. Trying to install my new pipes, I barely have enough stud to put the nuts on and there's no way that I'm getting the spacers on.  Should I install without the spacers? Is it possible to rotate the studs out further? Seems like something's wonky but there wasn't any spacers on the original exhaust so am I good to go without them?

  • @Rick Orris then dont use the spacers LOL 😄 they are there in the kit because some people need them, some dont. sometimes the studs have been replaced and the installer didnt put them in fully so they stick out, so the spacers are needed. whatever you do, dont mess with the studs trying to remove them unless they are broken.

  • Yeah, I felt a little silly asking but I've got little pride left at this stage of my life so figured I'd ask the stupid question to be sure I wasn't overlooking something. Thanks!

  • @Rick Orris no problemo!

  • @Rick Orris I came across this post searching for info due to having the same experience. There was just enough thread to grab onto after installing new exhaust gaskets. I went ahead and tightened them down evenly, each nut a little at a time. I found that the gasket crushes and eventually the nuts are able to grab more thread. I don't feel confident that they were able to catch enough of the stud, but they are tight. I'm gonna run with that and just keep an eye on it. If there is no leak and they don't come loose, that's good enough for me.

  • @Alexander Alonso as long as they are torqued to 18 lbft youll be set!
