I have a VT 600,I got it as a non runner. I have redone the font cylinder piston rings, replaced the CDI,new plugs, carb clean, velocity stacks and rejet. I got this bike in 2021. I'm at the end of my rope here.
The bike starts no problem,it idles no problem it revs perfectly through idle to WOT. When I put it in gear and bump the tyre up against my garage wall to do a burn out,the rear wheel will spin for a bit and then the bike will die,if I try again the bike revs awesome, put it in gear rev the shit out of it to spin the tyre-bike dies.
I can't make it out of my driveway because it's too steep and I lose power half way up,my neighbours laugh at me and it hurts my feelings.
can someone please help me,I've lost 4 years of sleep I'll never get back.
@Ryan Schubach fuel delivery? dual carb or single? are you sure the tank is vented properly? try doing the same with the cap off the tank. also, are you just trying to get out of the driveway in 1st gear? trying to go up a hill slowly in a high gear youll def stall. have you tried riding it? i mean, a burnout is probably the last thing id do as a diagnostic lol. i know plenty of people whi have toruble with a bike because theyre not used to how the clutch works, and gears and such, so they stall the bike a lot. nothings wrong wiht the bike. mightnot be your case but just checking.
typically if the bike dies on a hill + under high rpm, its a fuel starvation issue.
It's a dual carb. When I first got the bike as a non runner,I cleaned the carbs out and did some other things and eventually I got it running,I managed to get up the driveway and take it for a few laps around the neighbourhood-4 stars for bent forks 😆 it had a lot of balls considering it was a pile of shit. After that I noticed the front cylinder was cold to the touch,I then experimented using my 400 VLS as a donor and figured out the CDI was faulty-replaced the CDI- front and back cylinders firing- whoo-hooo. Did a compression test rear cylinder awesome, front cylinder shyte. Ordered new rings and gasket from Honda, tore the engine apart and changed the rings and gasket, stripped out the valves and lapped those while I was at it,put everything together to torque spec, got the timing back in (I think) compression test-passed ✅
I thought this is it! Im hitting the highway hard, but failed so bad,it just loses power.like you suggested,It must be a fuel issue. Think I should use the VLS as a donor again and fit those carbs(Dual) and the gas tank and give it another go? 😬
yes,I put it in first, and yes I know how to use my clutch. This is not my first rodeo.😋
@Ryan Schubach Alright man im just checking! i never can tell if someones new to bikes or a season old pro!
so id really rebuild the carbs, replace the intake boots, and check to make sure the tank is venting. thats where i would start. also, have you done a leakdown test? i had a bike that had an exhaust valve leak and i could nto get that thing to run until i completely recut the valve seats, not just lapped!
I get it,always check the nut that joins the seat to the handlebars 🤣🤣
Thanks TJ,the intake boots are a bit on the stiff side, probably a good idea to change those. No,haven't done a leak down test,I'll do that too.
I'm not going to let this bike win! I'll get this thing running. Thanks TJ,appreciate the advice. 💪
@Ryan Schubach thats the one piece of hardware everyone forgets about! LOL!
