2002 vt600 engine out of balance

  • Just recently buttoned up my bobber build, got about 500-600 miles on it and now I've been developing a vibrating sensation that is very rpm based. Trying to find any info for engine rebuild or if it's more cost effective to find a used engine. Any info and knowledge helps. Thank you

  • @Nick Lamberth Who says its a problem? haha!  when youve been riding bikes a long time youll realise they can make sounds sometimes that dont necessarily mean anything. jumping straight to needing a new engine  or a rebuild is wild dude. have you done any other diagnostics? chain tension, chain wear? checked the whole bike tip to tail that all fasteners are secure? have you checked to see if something is resting on another component and vibrating? this has absolutely happened to me severral times! any loose bolts? how old are the tires? see what i mean LOL! id rteally give the bike a throrough investigation before buying a motor. god luck and good speed!

  • I have double checked everything, most wear components are new, double checked every fastener when build was finished and even used small amount of blue loctite to give me a peace of mind. Within the last week my exhaust cracked, headlight fell out of the bucket, rear brake adjustment came loose and fuel tank came loose. Notice the vibration through the bars/grips, seat and foot pegs and it vibrates so bad everything tingles lol. Vibration gets worse with engine load and higher rpm. Thanks for the reply

  • @Nick Lamberth so youre basically telling me youre in the shakedown period. some bikes need a lot through this space, others, not so much.

checke dyour sprockets? made sure the front sprocket isnt flopping around? all the teeth are there? rear sprocklet isnt missing bolts? are all the rubber pieces in the left side of the rear wheel? are your brake shoes adjusted and installed correctly? steering stem bearings good? wheel bearings good? it sound slike youre going to need ot check each component of the bike before looking at the engine. is the frame cracked., i could literally sit here all day and rattle of thousands of suggestiong but its going ot come down to you inspecting SYSTEMATICALLY the entire bike. No joke, make a list, and check off each component as you go. start at the front andc work your way back. everyone wants to build a bike till they run into this shit. LOL

also, a tire thats too old, or egg shaped... can cause  bad vibration, example -  my phantom was awful! the vibration got worse and worse till i couldnt hit 40mph. i changed the front tire, it ran smooth as fuck.
